the footage as it was broadcast on iranian state media. he claims it was a drone iran downed in 2011. cnn cannot independently verify the authenticity of this video. we reached out to the pentagon for comment but have not heard back yet. nick robertson is following developments in london. is this the same drone that the united states said was returned to the united states? >> it looks like the same one. the iranians say it was flying 140 miles into their airspace off their northeastern corner, close to the border with afghanistan. the iranians are saying this aircraft was flying from the kandahar airfield base inside afghanistan, and some of the footage, and i looked at it, some of it could be kandahar air base but there's no guarantee this video came from the aircraft in question here. did they get this video from somewhere els? it's not clear. there's no way to verify at the moment what the iranians are saying. the spokesman that the iranians are putting forward says that the aircraft was sent to california several times in 2010 for repair and used for operations inside pakistan. >> tra

others. he's still at large and police say he has access to multiple weapons and assault rifles. cnn's kyung lah is joining us from los angeles where the police chief is calling it extremely worry some and scare ree. what's the latest kyung? >> reporter: certainly scary for anyone connected to the police department in southern california. this is where today's shooting spree began but all of this, wolf, began earlier this week. the murder spree began on sunday with the double killing of a newly engaged couple, monica quan and keith lawrence, quan, the daughter of a retired lapd captain, the officer who represented christopher dorner in front of the police board that eventually fired him. dorner refers to quan's murder in his man guess stow. he writes, i never had the opportunity to have a family of my own. i'm terminating yours. self-preservation is no longer important to me. i do not fear death as i died long ago on january 2nd of '09, a date a few month after dorner was fired as a police officer. the lapd fanned out, launching 40 protection details throughout southern california. >

light was followed by a series of deafening explosions. listen to this. an expert tells cnn that the debt nation appears to be the equivalent of roughly 300 kilotons of tnt. that is about the same magnitude of a nuclear blast. the impact on populated areas is widespread and historic. the concussion shattered windows. at least 1,000 people are hurt and cnn's mary snow is keeping track of it and there's a lot to keep track of. this is unbelievable, isn't it? >> it is. and frightening. you showed incredible video. more continues to come in. the scene was surreal has the meteor struck sending off mass confusion. meteors scattered over three of damage to about 3,000 buildings. it came out of nowhere. the bright streak long enough to capture on camera as it lurched towards earth and exploded. a deafening boom followed over russia. the sonic boom shattered glass. at least 1,000 people in the bulls eye of the falling meteor were injured. it's a bombing, says this man. there were reports that a large chunk of it was found in a lake. as frightening as it was, scientists say it's not a

reeva steenkamp, by accident. prosecutors say the killing was intentional and premeditated. cnn's robyn curnow is joining us from johannasberg, south africa. the prosecutor's laid out their plan. how did they do? >> reporter: it was like a roller coaster. i felt like i was watching a television drama. initially when the prosecutor laid out their case, they gave damning evidence and found two boxes of testosterone and syringes in his house. by the time the defense came in after lunch, bit by bit they ripped apart the state's evidence and unravelled quite spectacularly at one stage because there was quite an interesting exchange between oscar pistorius' lawyers and the investigating officer and he said, well, how do you know this is testosterone? have you tested it yet? and he said, no, i just read the label on the box. and he said, if you had gone to any pharmacy or any chemist, would you know that this is a herbal medicine. that's the kind of interchange taking place. also, the investigating officer really looking quite red-faced by the end of his stint. he admitted that he he didn't we

. >> this is cnn breaking news. we begin in california with miguel marquez. he's in big bear, california. he's been tracking the story all day and he has the latest. miguel, what do we know? >> well, we know there is a body in a cabin just up the road from where we are. and we believe it is the body of christopher dorner. we have confirmed it through several federal law enforcement and through someone who apparently leaked it from los angeles police department that dorner is in that cabin d now it is a matter of collecting his body and 100% identifying it. san bernardino sheriffs office push back as has lapd saying they haven't gotten in there and are not sure it is him but they said throughout the day mr. dorner was spotted several times, was in the cabin and never left that cabin. i have from another law enforcement official, federal official that his cell phone, mr. dorner's cell phone went on throughout the day and it is possible they were able to talk to him during the day and confirm he was in there and more importantly he did not have hostages in that cabin. at one.he tried to get out of it,

the power is slowly going back on. apparently -- who do we have now? mark mckay from cnn sports joins us live. mark, what can you tell us? >> i can tell you the good news is most of the lights are back on now, don, after about a 25-minute delay. this occurred at the start of the second half, actually, the explosive baltimore raven offense came out in the second half with a 109-yard kickoff return for a touchdown, the longest in super bowl history. san francisco had gotten the ball back 13:22 of the third quarter on third and 14, bam. not the entire stadium, the entire dome did not go out, but a really good portion of the dome, including the middle section and all of the scoreboard went completely dark. >> this is really unprecedented and it was interesting to sit here in the newsroom and watch and get people's reaction on social media, because the ravens were really charging ahead of the 49ers, which was unexpected, because most people's money, mark, as you know, was on the san francisco 49ers. >> the niners need to make the biggest comeback in super bowl history to get back into this ca

in chicago just days after performing for the obama inauguration. cnn's thooena jones is on the south side of check at the funeral. athena, you've had a chance to talk with some family and friends. what are they saying? >> well, you know, we've been viewing the ceremony from our truck out here. we have a live feed in. this has been a very emotional day certainly for hadiyah pendleton's friends and family and particularlial last half hour or so. we've seen more than a dozen young people, many of them young women who described themselves as best friends of hadial pendleton and a few young men talk about what she was like, a common theme is she smiled a lot. that she was a mentor and filled with laughter. let's listen to what one of these young people had to say. >> like the vibrant color purple, she chose spirituality and imagination. hadyia, you're beautiful like diamonds in the sky. and you've already begun to shine. >> and you heard her refer to the color purple. that is said to be hadiyah's favorite colors. and as you also heard from that young lady, quite emotional. some people said one
